| Some of the youth from the First United Methodist Church in Deming attended the Acquire the Fire conference in Phoenix, AZ on 21-November-09. A few of them chose to write about their experiences while at the conference. Their words appear here.
Josh: "This weekend has been great. I truly have learned so much. Not only how to worship and be close to God, but also how to bring those around me closer to Him as well. This event has been EPIC, and the people who put it together really know about teenagers. This event was not like one of those things that just depicted teens in their typical stereotypical behaviors, but it really was in tuned with how this generation thinks and feels. And the excellent choice of music kept everyone motivated and enthusiastic to worship. Everything about this weekend was great, and I would definitely love to come back next year."
Lela: "This weekend has been amazing. I really do believe that we all grew so much closer to not only the LORD but to each other. We all got to listen to someone who can relate to us. The music was fantastic! All the bands kept us wanting more and to help keep us awake and alert. It really just made me think about some of the topics that were discussed and how we deal with it in our lives."
Amy: "I had a really good time at Acquire the Fire. This was the only youth convention I have been to that had a number to text to put your two cents in to the service. Overall it was impactful and I am closer to some of the youth than I have ever been."
Adrian: "This was an amazing conference that really opened up my eyes to the divine power of the Lord. I really felt like our youth group grew exponentially from Acquire the Fire and that we all will continue to spread the word of Christ."
Bekah: "This trip taught me so much more about purity, forgiveness, and love. We learned how to show others the gospel in a non-condemning way. I also loved how they spoke of God’s love toward us; it really helped me understand it in such a powerful way. I really hope our youth group grew spiritually and later on in numbers."
Brannick: "During this trip I had a lot of fun and grew spiritually and learned about the greatness of the love of God. Also I believe that the Lord touched everyone in our group in some way."
Robert: "I’ve never been to a conference like this before and it was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. It reassured me of God’s love, grace, and power."
Allegra: "I loved that we worshiped all the time and were able to sing and be with people who had the same values as we did. I also loved that we as a youth group became closer to each other and God. Also Sue was the best driver : )."
Anthony: "On this trip I got a lot closer to God. It was amazing how the speakers sent out the message. The music was amazing and made me want to do more for God."
